Wow - what a concert last night at Chelmsford Cathedral.
Chelmsford Male Voice Choir hosted their Charity Concert last night. They were joined on stage by Braintree Voices and Farleigh Community Choir.
All the songs were taken from musicals which have been on stage, or screen, or both. The pieces came from a range of eras – from the Golden Age of Musicals to the Contemporary ones – including a song from Hercules, which premiers on stage this year.
The Chelmsford Male Voice Choir started the concert with a performance of Anthem. The audience wree delighted with the choice of music and joined in when they could - especially during If I Were A Rich Man! CMVC were then followed by three soloists. the first, Anne May from Braintree Voices sang Take That Look Off Your Face and this was followed by one of CMVC's own - Peter Wright. He sang a beautiful rendition of Night And Day. The last soloist was Emma Loring who sang a gorgeous arrangement of Tomorrow, from Annie.
It was then Braintree Voices chance to shine, and sang a great selection of songs.
There was a longer interval than usual to give audience members chance to visit the charity stalls. We were delighted to be joined by Home Start, Chelmsford Volunteer Service, Men's Shed, Aid Ukraine UK and Farleigh Hospice. CMVC would like to take the time to thank them for attending the concert and showcasing their charities. A retiring collection was made on all the charities behalf.
The second half ended in a very special way. Farleigh Community Choir joined Chelmsford Male Voice Choir and Braintree Voices to sing the last two numbers. With approximately 80 singers, the sound was truly amazing.
There must be two huge thank yous as well - the first for Claire Howell. This was her first concert with CMVC, having taken over the accompanist role when Sue Edwards took over the Musical Director role. Fabulous playing Claire - thank you.
The next goes to Tim Lloyd who compered the whole evening. It was a delight to have him and many of our audicence recognised it was 'Timbo' who used to host a show on BBC Essex
Thank yous also go to the concert manager and his team for all the background work and also to our Front of House ladies, who did a stirling job, as always.
You will next be able to hear Chelmsford Male Voice Choir at their concert on 31st May when they will be joined by the Swift Singers. Braintree Voices will be next performing at The Church in Great Notley on 10th May when they are joined by Braintree Male Voice Choir. They will also be performing alongside Aled Jones at The Institute, in Brantree in June.
All choir are always on the lookout for new members, so please do come and join us.
