The choir said a fond farewell to Paul at their last rehearsal with him on Tuesday 10th December. It was very emotional as Paul has done wonders with the choir since started with them in January 2023. He recently got a new job, for which we congratulate him for, but it does mean that he cannot commute to Chelmsford and be in time to take the rehearsals, so sadly had to resign from the position.
Paul was always telling the choir that he could sing louder than all of them put together and on rare occasions he told them that they were becoming a 'proper choir'. He was presented with a cap with a fitting quote on it.
He was also presented with a beautiful baton and a voucher to his favourite barber, along with a financial gift.
On Saturday he led his final concert with the choir and chose all his favourite pieces. It was a lovely concert and a fitting end to his tenure. Sue Edwards, who has been the accompanist for 10 years, is taking over the leadership and we would like to introduce you to Claire Howell who will take over the accompanist role. Paul mentioned on Saturday that he may pop back from time to time and sing with the baritones. Sue - watch out!
2025 is the 75th anniversary of the current choir and they are starting with a wine and cheese event for all members of the choir past and present, so if you fall into one of those categories and have not received your invite, please get in touch.
The first concert under Sue's leadership will be at Chelmsford Cathedral on 26th April 2025. She hopes that you will be able to join the choir at their Grand Charity Concert.
